The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BBTNBTS) has officially reopened the Mount Semeru hiking trail starting Sunday, May 18, 2025. However, climbing is only permitted up to Ranu Kumbolo, with a maximum quota of 200 people per day. The Head of BBTNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, conveyed this decision in an official letter announced to the public. The reopening of the hiking trail takes into account the condition of Mount Semeru which is still at Level II (Alert) status. "Based on monitoring the status of Mount Semeru's activity, PVMBG has set the status of Mount Semeru at Level II, taking this into account, the Mount Semeru hiking activity has been reopened.
Mount Semeru Climbing Requires Online Ticket Purchase Although it is open, climbing is only permitted up to Ranu Kumbolo. This restriction is implemented as a risk mitigation and safety measure for climbers. "The final limit for climbing is up to Ranu Kumbolo. In addition, all climbers are required to purchase tickets online through the official website https://bromotenggersemeru.id. For climbing costs, it is determined based on Government Regulation Number 36 of 2024 and Decree of the Minister of Forestry Number 2 of 2024. Mount Semeru is included in the category of entrance tickets for class II national park visitors.
Route Only Through Ranupani, Limited Quota The entrance to the climb is only opened through Ranupani, with a limited quota of a maximum of 200 people per day. Each climber is only allowed to stay for two days and one night.

  • Health certificate valid for at least 1 day before climbing
  • Every climber must re-register and attend a briefing at the Ranupani Entry Post.
  • Each group must be accompanied by one guide from the Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Guide Organization.
  • Climbers are required to re-register and attend a briefing at the Ranupani Entrance Post before climbing.
  • Climbers over 70 years old must have a letter of recommendation from a licensed practicing doctor.
  • Must bring original Resident Identity Card, Child Identity Card, and Family Card (data must match)
  • Climbers must comply with the standard operating procedures set by TNBTS. Climbers must bring a health certificate from a health center, hospital or clinic with an operational license.
  • Mandatory climbing in groups of 2–10 people
